About the Image Color Inverter

The Image Color Inverter runs entirely in your browser. Drop or select an image, click Invert Colors, and every pixel's red, green, and blue channels are replaced with their complement (255 minus the original value), producing a classic photographic negative. Download the result as a PNG. Nothing is uploaded to a server — everything happens locally with JavaScript on your device.

How to use the inverter

  1. Click the drop zone or drop an image file onto it.
  2. Click Invert Colors to produce the negative effect.
  3. Click Download to save the inverted image as a PNG, or Clear to start over.

Frequently asked questions

What is color inversion? Each pixel's RGB values are subtracted from 255, so light areas become dark, dark areas become light, and colors flip to their complementary hue.

What is the output format? The download is a PNG file. This preserves transparency and avoids compression artifacts.

Does this tool upload my images? No. All inversion happens locally in your browser. Your image never leaves your device.

Can I invert the same image multiple times? Clicking Invert Colors again restores the original, since inverting twice returns the source image.
